The Story of Illuminates
One of his greatest works, Illumine, reflects not just Tuskas mastery of technique, but his fascination with process. Commissioned by the Donovan Trust, the final piece speaks to the diversity of life at the University. Spanning nearly 10 years from original concept to installation, Illumine evolved into 56 bronze castings, a large-scale, time-consuming effort by any measure. However, as the piece moved from concept to casting, Tuskas health began to deteriorate. Yet, his passion for his work soared. Perhaps this melding of Tuskas vision, with his long tenure as an educator, makes Illumine one of his most significant works.
Tuskas vision for Illumine began as a series of sketches. Those then grew to a series of woodcut figures, held in wooden frames, Illuminates Dance 1 and Illuminates Dance 2. Some of Tuskas most stunning work, these pieces are now available for custom home and garden applications. From metal to wood to glass, these figures can be rendered in a variety of media. And the applications are limitless a window screen, a garden gate, room dividers or wall accentsa custom piece can bring a new level of life and energy to any environment.
